Goin' public... #1

If you find yourself here from an Internet search for something useful... I apologize!

I’m Scott Thomas... a.k.a. “Surly-Mac”.

This website is just a place where I can chronicle my “progress” as I learn to play some blues harmonica & ukulele... and figure out other things about brands, styles, mics, amps, effects, recording, etc.

I've been messing around with harmonica and ukulele for a couple of years; I’ve decided one who plays both on a tune is a, “Harp-Uker”... yeah; it sounds like, “har-PUker...”.

I love the blues and, one day, I'm going to learn to play some "adequate" blues harmonica and blues ukulele. In the meantime, I practice, play & write simple songs as, “Surly-Mac’s One-Man Band” or “The SMOMB”... we may not be very talented, but we have a good time and learn something about music, blues harp, songwriting & recording nearly every day.

I record many of my practice sessions using my MacBook Pro laptop camera with my Zoom H4n Recorder as the audio interface. I usually "tweak" the sound in GarageBand, adding a little reverb and modest EQ. I’ve used this Surly-Mac.com domain to post videos & songs for my (few) friends & family privately for quite a while but we’re taking the site “public” now... simply to make it easier for the interested to check in.

If you find yourself here from an Internet search that was designed to locate something
useful... I apologize!

There may be one or two things of interest on the site for folks just learning to blow a little blues harp or pick some uke lines... the visitor might even find a useful tidbit or review about gear, etc.

But, generally speaking - this site is just one old fart’s way of keeping a few friends & family members up to date on his never-ending quest to learn to play a little blues.
