It only took me until riff #3 before I found something that I really liked...
I ordered Ben Hewlett’s new harmonica course a couple of days ago at Harmonicaworld.net - “Sonny Boy Williamson II Blues Riffs (Volume 21)” was offered on a special 48-hour deal at Harp-L.org so the downloaded PDF (book) & 66 MP3 tracks only set me back U.S. $12.93.
Ben Hewlett & Paul Lennon have collaborated to bring a fun, concise and useable course of Sonny Boy Williamson II licks & riffs to us wannabes... each riff is charted, tabbed & accompanied by a very well done MP3 track... the riff is repeated in different times/rhythms with accompanying drums & guitar.Hewlett plays a deep, rich, gorgeous sounding Filisko-Hohner Low C harmonica on all the riffs but you can play along just fine with a regular key-of-C harmonica... it just doesn’t sound like ol’ Sonny Boy!
As Ben’s website explains, the material starts out very simply and even a beginner will be able to play along & learn.
It only took me until riff #3 before I found something that I really liked and was able to modify for my abilities.
Here’s a little taste of SBII Riff #3 played on my Seydel 1847 Noble “G” harp (nope; don’t have a low “C”!) recorded today at my desk: ➜11-18-11 Modified SBII Riff #3
